Polygon's Lisovo Fork: A March 4 Upgrade to Juice Payments, Wallets, and a $1M Gas Giveaway

Polygon's Lisovo hardfork is scheduled to go live around block 83,756,500, targeting a 2:00 p.m. UTC activation on March 4. Node runners need to get their clients upgraded to Bor v2.6.0 or Erigon v3.4.0 before then, unless they fancy running a ghost chain.

This upgrade package delivers PIP-82 gas subsidies, adds the Count Leading Zeros (CLZ) opcode, introduces wallet tweaks for passkey lovers, provides more granular fee-tuning knobs, and tightens up transaction validation. Bor v2.6.0 also bundles in the usual security patches, bug squashes, and upstream goodies from go-ethereum v1.16.8.

According to Polygon's own announcement, the hardfork will subsidize a cool $1 million in agent-to-agent gas fees, grease the wheels for faster payments, and widen smart-contract compatibility. The network's 2026 roadmap is all about making money move faster, simpler, and more reliably—focusing heavily on letting users control their fees and not fight their wallets.

Passkey support means users can finally log in with something from this century, moving beyond the eternal anxiety of seed phrase management. CLZ support unlocks new contract possibilities for functions that need to, well, count leading zeros—a thrillingly niche but necessary capability. On the stablecoin front, activity is buzzing: JPYC is fueling merchant payments, wallet transfers, card top-ups, and DeFi pools, while BBRL is streamlining forex settlements.

A prime real-world example is the instant USDC VAT refund service for eligible non-EU travelers at Milan, Rome, and Venice airports, launched during the 2026 Winter Olympics with support from Global Blue and Shift4. It’s basically duty-free shopping for the crypto age.

Despite all this forward-looking tech hype, $POL decided to look backwards, dipping 11% in the past day to $0.1011. That puts its market cap at $1.07 billion with a 24-hour trading volume of $86.05 million, proving once again that token price and network utility often have a complicated, on-again-off-again relationship.
