Aave's Temp Check: Passing by a Satoshi in a Classic Governance Glitch

By our DeFi Desk2 min read

Aave's ambitious "Aave Will Win" proposal has narrowly survived its first democratic trial, scraping through the Temp Check vote with a mere 52.58% approval. The off-chain Snapshot poll concluded on Sunday, revealing a starkly divided community with 42% opposed and 5.42% sitting on the sidelines—a margin of victory so slim it would make a light transaction look bloated.

This skin-of-its-teeth passage propels the measure to the Aave Request for Final Comment (ARFC) stage, where the fine print may face some last-minute polish before any real on-chain money gets involved. The core ask? For tokenholders to greenlight a war chest of up to $42.5 million in stablecoins and a juicy 75,000 AAVE tokens for Aave Labs. The promised return is a pledge to funnel 100% of revenue from all Aave-branded products back to the DAO treasury, essentially betting the farm on a DAO-funded operating model.

The razor-thin win exposes a governance community more fractured than a blockchain after a contentious hard fork. Detractors have been feasting on the proposal's hefty price tag and the inclusion of 75,000 AAVE tokens—a neat bundle of pure voting power that certainly doesn't hurt the proposer's cause. The pre-vote debate was a classic he-said, he-said, featuring dueling analyses from Aave Chan Initiative's Marc Zeller and Aave Labs itself, each with a creatively different take on past funding and value delivered.

Taking to X, Aave founder Stani Kulechov framed the Temp Check as a step toward a "fully token-centric model," promising that structural tweaks would follow community feedback—because what's a governance process without a few post-vote adjustments? The road ahead winds through the ARFC stage and then potentially to a binding on-chain Aave Improvement Proposal (AIP) vote. Should it ultimately pass, this could fundamentally rewire how Aave handles development, revenue, and brand management. That is, of course, if the DAO can ever manage to align its countless factions on a single idea, a feat roughly as common as a bug-free mainnet launch.
