When $5M Walks into a Bar Called 'Decentralized AI': General Tensor's Infrastructure Booze-Up

General Tensor has officially closed its pre-seed and seed funding rounds, raking in a total of $5 million. The firm is dedicated to constructing open-source artificial intelligence on the Bittensor ($TAO) network, because why let the tech giants have all the fun?

The recent seed round was spearheaded by Good Morning Holdings—which has those sweet, sweet Goldman Sachs connections—and Lok Lee. The earlier pre-seed round was guided by Lvna Capital, with additional capital pouring in from DCG, X Ventures, Proof of Talk, and Outliers Fund. The fact that the round was over-subscribed is a clear signal that investors are developing a serious thirst for anything labeled "decentralized AI."

Operating squarely at the intersection of blockchain and AI, General Tensor’s menu includes validator operations, specialized subnet infrastructure, and DeFi applications built on Bittensor. It’s basically a full-stack diner for the crypto-AI crowd.

The freshly acquired capital is earmarked for expansion within the Bittensor ecosystem. The roadmap includes scaling validator operations, fine-tuning subnets, and broadening access to its DeFi apps. In a strategic pivot back in February 2026, the company rebranded from RoundTable21 to General Tensor Validator (GTV), a move that screams "we're here for the infrastructure, not just the vibes."

The company manages multiple validators and mining operations that actively produce Bittensor's native $TAO token. Their pitch is that this lets investors engage with the asset more efficiently than simply holding it and praying to the charts—a strategy known to many.

General Tensor claims its vertically integrated model delivers a staggering 40x efficiency gain over passive strategies. That's not just an edge; it's like bringing a quantum computer to a game of tic-tac-toe.

Alan Casis of Lvna Capital commented: "Leading the 2024 pre-seed, we saw the potential in decentralized AI. General Tensor's technical integration and production efficiency sealed the deal." In other words, they saw the machine and decided to buy the factory.

By embedding itself deep within Bittensor's operational layer, General Tensor's model fundamentally alters the cost and efficiency calculations for $TAO production. With expanded infrastructure, the goal is to mint tokens at rates below the market price, offering investors a direct arbitrage on optimism.

CEO Mike Grantis pointed out: "Our infrastructure-driven model generates $TAO at much lower costs, beating plain old asset holding." It's the crypto equivalent of growing your own vegetables instead of paying supermarket prices.

As global appetite for AI solutions continues to balloon, General Tensor's upgrades are poised to benefit the entire Bittensor ecosystem. This development push, backed by a roster of heavyweight investors, underscores a growing institutional curiosity in the plumbing of decentralized AI—because even in Web3, someone has to lay the pipes.
