Geopolitics FUDs the Mood: Polymarket Degens Bet on Bitcoin's 'Correction Vacation' Before Moon Mission

By our Markets Desk2 min read

Bitcoin decided to take a little breather this week, dipping its toes back around $68,000 after getting a bit too excited near $76,000 last week. It seems the digital gold narrative still has to pause for some old-school geopolitical drama.

The plot thickened as former US President Donald Trump issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran over the Strait of Hormuz, playing a classic game of "I'll hit your energy facilities if you don't open the door." Iran, never one to back down from a spicy retort, threatened to slam the strait shut and return the favor. This geopolitical staring contest is, unsurprisingly, being blamed for giving BTC a case of the short-term shakes.

This price pullback has unsurprisingly put a damper on the degen party mood, at least for the moment. Over on Polymarket, where conviction is measured in probability and stablecoins, the crystal ball is looking a bit cloudy for the immediate future.

One specific market is showing that traders, with the wisdom of a thousand rekt portfolios, see a 62% chance that Bitcoin will visit the $60,000 neighborhood before it gets a VIP pass to the $80,000 club. The collective gut feeling is that gravity might win out over rocket fuel in the very near term.

In another Polymarket oracle pool asking where Bitcoin will park in March, the favorite pick is the sub-$65,000 parking lot, holding a 55% probability. It's the safe, sensible bet, like choosing a salad over a leveraged long right now.

The runner-up scenario, sitting at a 19% chance, is the more dramatic pit stop below $60,000 before the month is out. Meanwhile, the hopium-filled dream of blasting past $80,000 in March is currently trading at a measly 8%—proof that even degens have moments of stark, price-chart-induced realism.
