Shibarium's Layer-3 Play: Because Sometimes Two Layers of Cake Just Aren't Enough
The Shiba Inu ecosystem is now baking a fresh Layer-3 blockchain directly on top of its existing Layer-2 network, Shibarium. It's a classic case of when your scaling solution needs its own scaling solution, with WoofSwap, a DEX that's clearly not content just swapping tokens, spearheading the build under the ShibClaw banner.
Dubbed SouLayer, this new L3 currently has an explorer up and running in test mode. The team at WoofSwap is keeping the technical deep-dive and mainnet roadmap close to their chests, offering the crypto-classic disclaimer that it's all still very, very early—a phrase that somehow manages to inspire both hype and existential dread.
Shibarium's Layer-2 was already supposed to be the efficiency upgrade over the clunky base layer. Now, the planned L3 is aiming to crank the throughput dial even further, slash costs into the ground, and create a playground for more niche dApps. It's the blockchain equivalent of adding a turbocharger to a car that's already on the highway.
Early on-chain metrics are about as lively as a ghost chain's graveyard. As of March 21, 2026, SouLayer has seen a whopping 25 transactions. It has, however, processed 30,937 total blocks and attracted 30,842 wallet addresses to interact, which suggests a lot of people showed up to the party but are still standing awkwardly by the punch bowl.
The overarching ShibClaw initiative isn't just about stacking blockchains; it's also bringing AI-powered agents into the mix to automate tasks and user workflows. It seems the future isn't just decentralized—it's also got a silicon brain, presumably ready to execute your swaps while making sarcastic comments about your portfolio.
It's worth noting this fresh L3 endeavor is a completely separate dish from the privacy-focused scaling solution the Shiba Inu chefs whipped up back in April 2024. That one also remains in the test kitchen, simmering away without a firm date for when it gets served to the mainnet. The ecosystem's strategy appears to be: why build one future when you can build two?
