The kidnappers demanded a ransom exceeding $10 million and, in a brutal twist, snipped off one of the entrepreneur's fingers to encourage faster settlement—a stark reminder that in crypto, the physical keys can be just as vulnerable as the digital ones.

French police successfully rescued the victims and rounded up most of the crew, but one savvy suspect managed to rug-pull himself out of the country.
