VC's $42M Seed Phrase Slip-Up Still Stings: Offering a De-Gen's Bounty in ETH

Bo Shen, the founder of crypto VC outfit Fenbushi, has decided to turn his epic wallet-draining into a community quest, putting a bounty on his own multi-million-dollar blunder. He's dangling a 10-20% finder's fee for anyone who can help claw back the $42 million in digital assets that ghosted his personal wallet in 2022—think of it as a 20% tip for saving his bacon.

The digital haul was nothing to sneeze at, featuring a cool $38 million in USDC, 1,607 ETH, roughly $720k in USDT, and 4.13 BTC. "Three years have passed. The investigation has never stopped," Shen mused on X, noting his team has compiled evidence and the trail of stolen goods is "becoming increasingly clear"—a classic crypto cliffhanger worthy of a blockchain soap opera.

His new public plea is straight out of a heist movie's final act: "Any individual or organization that makes a substantive contribution to asset recovery—regardless of identity, background, or method—will receive 10%–20% of the total recovered amount." It's an open call to white hats, grey hats, and maybe even a few clever degens who've seen a transaction or two.

To date, about $1.2 million has been frozen, thanks to the on-chain detective work of Taylor Monahan and ZachXBT. But Shen believes modern on-chain forensics and a dash of AI could blow the case wide open, like using a blockchain magnifying glass and a robot sidekick.

"This is not just about recovering assets," he stated. "It is about opening a real case to the community, inviting collaboration, and seeing how far the tools of the AI era can push what was once impossible." In other words, it's a stress test for crypto's collective brainpower, with a multi-million-dollar prize pool.

The initial digital robbery occurred in November 2022. Blockchain security firm SlowMist points the finger at a likely compromised seed phrase—a reminder that your 12 words are worth more than your social security number, car keys, and first-born child combined. Shen filed reports with local law enforcement, roping in the FBI and a battalion of lawyers for good measure.

Fenbushi Capital, which Shen launched back in 2015, currently manages a war chest of over $1.6 billion. Its portfolio boasts heavyweights like Bybit and Circle, alongside strategic bags of ETH and Zcash, proving that even the big players can have a "not your keys, not your coins" nightmare.
