Not Your Keys, Not Your Problems: 70-Year-Old Korean Whale Donates 100K XRP to Hospital Instead of HODLing

SEOUL – In what's either a masterclass in charitable timing or just really good karma, a 70-year-old South Korean investor has dropped 100,000 XRP (worth approximately 210 million won or $152,000) on Seoul National University Hospital. The donation marks another chapter in Kim Geo-seok's philanthropic journey, proving that some whales actually do splash down on things other than memes andrug pulls.

The hospital wasted no time getting the tokens into their institutional wallet, because when someone sends you six figures in crypto, you don't exactly YOLO it into a hardware wallet and forget about it. Administrators confirmed they'd liquidate the XRP through registered exchanges and allocate the funds to their general development fund and the children's hospital development fund. No rug, just rugtor.

This isn't Kim's first rodeo with the hospital either. Last November, he donated one Bitcoin (worth significantly more back then, because of course it was) to the same institution. His total track record includes 900 million won in cash plus 1.27 billion won in various cryptocurrencies – making him basically a walking tax deduction with excellent taste in medical causes. Meanwhile, the rest of us are still waiting for our bags to print.

The hospital's crypto handling protocol is surprisingly organized: immediate secure transfer, valuation within 24 hours, liquidation through registered exchanges within 1-3 business days, and final allocation within 5 business days. Basically, they treat your donation better than most exchanges treat your withdrawal requests. Coinbase could take notes.

South Korea's crypto scene has matured significantly, with regulatory clarity improving and institutional adoption increasing. When respected institutions like Seoul National University Hospital publicly accept digital asset donations, it lends credibility to the entire ecosystem – and maybe makes your mom finally stop asking if your crypto portfolio is "real money." Though probably not.

Kim's donation will support infrastructure, equipment, staff training, pediatric care, and childhood disease research. Not bad for a guy who could have just let his XRP ride. Then again, at his age, maybe he realized that diamond hands are only useful if you actually have hands to hold things with later in life.
