Hoskinson to XRP Army: 'Sorry, But Ripple's XRP Hoard Is Bigger Than My Charity Budget'
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson is hitting back at criticism from the XRP community over his lack of financial support for Ripple during its SEC showdown. The man built an entire blockchain empire without a corporate treasury bigger than his personal snack fund, so naturally the XRP community expected him to Venmo them legal fees. You can't make this stuff up.
In his latest livestream, the ADA creator made one thing clear: he publicly opposed the SEC's lawsuit against Ripple back when it mattered. He voiced his stance in interviews and recorded discussions at the time. But apparently, that wasn't enough for some XRP supporters who wanted actual cash on the table. Posting "I stand with XRP" apparently doesn't count as charitable giving in their book. Who knew Twitter solidarity had such a low exchange rate?
Here's the thing though—Hoskinson argues Ripple didn't need a fundraiser. The company sits on a massive pre-mined XRP stash worth billions. He even pointed out Ripple dropped $1.2 billion on the Hidden Road acquisition using those reserves. Translation: Ripple's legal war chest was just fine without outside help. Imagine showing up to a billionaire's housewarming party with a six-pack and being told you should've donated more. That's basically what was happening here.
But the drama doesn't stop there. Hoskinson also took aim at Ripple's advocacy for the Clarity Act, calling it deeply
