Steakhouse Financial's Front-End Gets a Little Too Well-Done: Phishers Move In
DeFi risk curator Steakhouse Financial got cooked this week. The protocol disclosed a front-end breach Monday morning, warning users that its website and app are now serving up a phishing scam to anyone unlucky enough to visit. Looks like someone forgot to check the grill before opening for dinner.
The good news? Existing depositors are apparently safe. Steakhouse was quick to reassure the community: no deposits are at risk, no contracts are affected. All current Steakhouse depositors can breathe easy. The steak is already on their plate—phishers just can't reach the table anymore.
The bad news? Anyone new trying to interact with the platform right now is likely getting served a malicious version implemented by the hackers. The team warned users to stay away until further notice while they work to restore the frontend. Walking through that door right now is basically handing your keys to a stranger in a dark alley. Don't be that guy.
Crypto security firm Blockaid identified the culprits: the attackers are running code from one of the largest active wallet drainers onchain — Angelferno, also known as Angel Drainer. This particular drainer specializes in tricking users into signing malicious transactions that give hackers full access to drain their funds. Nothing says "trustless financial revolution" like accidentally signing away your life savings to a guy named Angel. Earlier this month, AI crypto firm GAIB suffered a similar fate, with hackers gaining access to its domain and deploying a copycat site kitted with the same Angelferno drainer. Blockaid helped detect that malware, and the malicious site was taken down in about seven hours with no reported user losses. At least someone in this town knows how to run a cleanup
