SBF Now Taking Shots at Judge Kaplan's Impartiality
Sam Bankman-Fried is now suing the referee after losing the game. The former CEO has publicly alleged bias from U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan, filing pro se in the Southern District of New York as he pushes for a new trial. Because apparently, when you're convicted of defrauding billions, the next logical step is to moonlight as a pro bono legal scholar.
SBF's claims focus on specific courtroom conduct and remarks made during proceedings that resulted in his conviction. The filing joins a larger conversation about judicial recusal in high-profile cases, as the defense angles for another shot at freedom. Nothing says "I respect the legal process" quite like claiming the judge was personally vendetta-ing against you after you got caught running the biggest crypto Ponzi since... well, you know.
No word yet on whether the court will bite. Given that Judge Kaplan has already seen through SBF's testimony like a glass wallet, the odds of this motion going anywhere are roughly equivalent to Alameda recovering its funds: technically possible, mathematically pessimistic.
