Bitcoin Pumps to $68K on Iran Peace Hopes: 'Show Us the Guarantees'

By our Markets Desk2 min read

Bitcoin is living that green life today, casually strolling above $68,000 like it just found out the IRS forgot to audit it — that's a solid 2% bounce from an intraday dip below $66,000. The catalyst? Pure geopolitical hopium, baby.

Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian dropped the vibes that they're totally down to end the war — but hold up, there are some receipts needed first. The wishlist: security guarantees this conflict doesn't pull a crypto rug pull and come back, war damages and reparations (cha-ching), an end to operations against Iran's proxies, and full sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. Basically, "show us the collateral before we shake on it."

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump told the New York Post he's seeing the Iran war hitting its final boss stage soon, with the Strait of Hormuz reopening automatically like a level completion. He also flexed that the U.S. has basically achieved its main objective: making sure Iran doesn't get the nuclear party invitation.

Oil markets caught the de-escalation fever and started sweating. Brent crude tumbled to $105, down almost 4% — that's a fat L for the energy bulls. WTI fell to $101, down nearly 2%. The Strait of Hormuz is suddenly looking like a weekend traffic jam — weekly transits went from five to seven oil vessels. Someone's finally getting those shipping discounts.

Despite all this optimistic rhetoric that would make a moon boy cry tears of joy, crypto traders aren't buying the hype completely. Polymarket data shows only a 38% chance of a U.S.-Iran ceasefire by April 30. That's basically the market saying "I'll believe it when I see it" while quietly DCAing anyway.

Bitcoin currently hangs around $68,200, having touched $68,400 on the move — briefly flirting with those gains like it's nervous about commitment.
