World Chain's MiniKit 2.0: Developers Finally Get to Sleep at Night

World has launched MiniKit 2.0 on World Chain, introducing a standardized framework that allows developers to build applications once and deploy them across both web environments and World App with minimal changes. The upgrade aligns with Ethereum's EIP-1193 standard, simplifying cross-platform development and reducing integration complexity. In plain English: devs can finally stop maintaining three separate codebases while questioning their life choices.

The release comes as Mini Apps see rising adoption across the ecosystem. Over the past seven days, Mini Apps recorded more than 12.1 million opens, with total usage surpassing 2.2 billion opens, signaling growing engagement in consumer-facing applications built on World. That's a lot of eyeballs, and by "a lot" we mean numbers that make VCs start sending unsolicited DMs.

MiniKit 2.0 enables existing applications to be converted into Mini Apps with minimal code adjustments, in some cases requiring as little as two lines. Applications deployed within World App now mirror their web counterparts, allowing developers to scale without rewriting core logic, while simplifying testing, distribution, and iteration. The "two lines" part is either a miracle or a flex—possibly both. We'll take it.

The upgrade also expands local payment capabilities through additional stablecoins, including wARS, wCOP, wMXN, wBRL, wPEN, wCLP, and EURC. This positions World Chain as a key infrastructure layer for localized stablecoin payments, removing the need for developers to manage region-specific payment systems. Goodbye, spaghetti code. Hello, actually sleeping at night.

Performance improvements are driven by the integration of Flashblocks, which reduces transaction confirmation times from up to two seconds to roughly 200 milliseconds. The change is designed to support real-time applications such as trading interfaces, gaming, and interactive consumer experiences. Two seconds used to feel fast. Now it feels like watching a loading bar in 2024. The future is impatient, and Flashblocks gets it.

World has also introduced gas sponsorship via Privy, powered by ZeroDev's account abstraction infrastructure. This allows developers to cover transaction fees for users, eliminating the need for wallet balances or manual fee handling and improving onboarding for new users. Nothing says "welcome to crypto" like not needing to explain why they need ETH to do anything. Revolutionary concept: actually making things work.

Alongside the upgrade, World opened applications for World Build 3, its developer program supporting projects building on World Chain and its proof of human infrastructure. Previous participants have raised more than $15 million from venture capital firms while deploying applications used by millions of verified users. The money quote: builders are actually building, and investors are actually investing. Novel concept in this economy.

The new cohort will begin with a four-day hackathon offering $20,000 in prizes, followed by a
