Magic Eden's Wallet Pulls the Ultimate April Fools' Joke: Export Your Keys or Lose 'Em Forever
Magic Eden is officially killing off its native wallet. The former NFT marketplace announced the wallet will enter export-only mode starting April 1, giving users one last chance to grab their private keys or seed phrases before the lights go out. Nothing says "we're pivoting to gambling" quite like telling your users to kindly extract their crypto before it becomes a digital paperweight. April Fools? Nope. Just classic Web3 rug pull energy, but with extra steps.
From April 1, no new transactions allowed. The wallet gets axed from all app stores, and you can't download or recover new ones anymore. Basically, it's read-only mode until the plug is pulled completely on May 1. Think of it as a digital coma—your assets just sit there, staring at you, wondering why you didn't move them to a wallet that actually has a pulse. The app store delisting is the final nail in the coffin, right next to that family photo of you buying JPEG rocks for ETH at peak cycle.
If you haven't moved your assets yet, do it before April 1. Export your keys to another wallet and for the love of everything on-chain, don't delete the app—you won't be able to recover it. Your assets stay safe as long as you've got your seed phrase backed up. This is your reminder that self-custody is a blessing and a curse. You have full control! Also, if you lose your keys, you're absolutely cooked. No customer support, no "forgot password" button, just you and the void. Maybe write it down somewhere other than that one Notes app you definitely won't accidentally delete next year.
Magic Eden already pulled the plug on its EVM and Bitcoin wallets. Users had until March 27 to withdraw
