Did DPRK Devs Build Your Bags? Analyst Drops Bombshell on Dozens of Major Altcoins

On-chain analyst Taylor Monahan has made a striking claim that's setting the crypto Twitter ablaze: IT personnel with ties to North Korea (DPRK) allegedly played an active role in developing numerous major crypto protocols, dating back to the "DeFi Summer" era. Because nothing says "financial revolution" quite like potentially having your yield farming strategy architected by someone working out of a cyber bunker in Pyongyang. The timing, frankly, is impeccable—right when we were all finally starting to trust DeFi again.

According to Monahan, these individuals weren't just lurking in obscure shitcoins—they were contributing to leading platforms in the industry. The analyst pointed to well-known projects like SushiSwap, THORChain, Harmony, Ankr, Shiba Inu, Yearn Finance, and Floki as examples of protocols with alleged DPRK-linked developers. That's right, degens—your meme coins, your yield engines, and your beloved dog money might have been coded by people whose VPN usage makes your exit liquidity look amateurish.

Monahan emphasized that the shared list represents only a limited portion, suggesting many more projects may have been affected. So if your favorite token isn't on this list, congratulations: either it's clean, or it's just so obscure that even state-sponsored actors didn't bother. Either way, sleep soundly tonight.

The full roster of allegedly affected projects includes: SushiSwap, THORChain, Yam, Pickle, Harvest, Reclaim, Swing, Paid, Naos, Shezmu, Qrolli, Saffron, Sifu, Napier, Harmony, Blueberry, Stabble, OneRing, Elemental, Divvy, LAToken, Impermax, Kira, Cook, Fantom, Ankr, Gamerse, Metaplay, Spice, Beanstalk, DeltaPrime, MagicCraft, Hector, DeSpace, Depo, CreamFi, Shiba Inu, Kuma Inu, Starlink, Yearn, Floki. For those keeping score at home, that's a lot of "innovative financial primitives" potentially built by people with very different ideas about what "decentralization" means. Somewhere, Satoshi is either crying or laughing.

One curious detail: some developer resumes claimed "7 years of blockchain development experience." Monahan defended this, arguing DPRK-linked IT employees have been active in the industry for a long time and possess high technical expertise. Seven years, huh? That's actually impressive when you consider they were probably mining Bitcoin on government-issued hardware back when most of us were still explaining crypto to our confused parents at Thanksgiving dinners.
