ETH's Buyer-Seller Gap Hits 3-Year Extreme as $104M Imbalance Signals It's Go Time

By our Markets Desk2 min read

Ethereum is currently punching 5% higher at the $2,140 level after escaping the $2,000 support zone – and the market is finally paying attention instead of doomscrolling through memecoins. The buyer-seller divergence just hit a three-year extreme, with roughly $104M more buying pressure than selling. For those keeping score at home, that's not just noise – that's your grandma asking if she should finally download MetaMask.

Analyst Ted Pillows had flagged the $2,000 zone as make-or-break territory, warning that a breakdown could trigger cascading liquidations toward $1,980, $1,800, and ultimately $1,500. Instead, ETH decided to rally harder than a DAO governance proposal at 3am on a Tuesday, with $2,400 now in play and degens everywhere suddenly remembering they "always believed."

The key level to watch: ETH needs to reclaim $2,200 on a four-hour close to officially invalidate the bearish structure. The 50 EMA sits near $2,500 – significant overhead, but also a magnet if momentum holds like a liquidity pool at a popular degen playground. A daily close below $2,000, however, could open the floodgates to $1,800 and $1,500, which would have everyone temporarily forgetting about the merge, the surge, and whatever comes next.

Longer-term forecasts remain bullish – 2026 average around $4,000, machine-learning models pointing to $4,350, and VanEck's 2030 target at $11,800. That's right, kids, we're talking about a price prediction that makes today's levels look like chump change. But right now, it's all about whether $2,000 holds, because nothing kills a bullish thesis faster than a support level turning into resistance faster than you can say "wen Lambo."

Volume confirmation above $2,150 would shift the balance decisively toward the bulls. DeFi dominance and Layer-2 adoption are providing structural demand underneath the chart – basically, there's actual utility keeping the lights on while everyone argues about tokenomics on Twitter. The question is whether technicals confirm what the order flow is already suggesting, or if we're just watching another fakeout in the making. Place your bets.
