Uncle Sam Wants 'Em Young: Trump Accounts Tap Robinhood to Get Kids in the Market Early

The U.S. Department of the Treasury has officially launched its "Trump Accounts" program, bringing BNY Mellon on as the official financial agent and Robinhood into the mix as a key partner. BNY Mellon will handle account management and help build a dedicated mobile app, while Robinhood will provide brokerage services and act as the initial trustee. Because nothing says "making America great again" quite like getting a six-year-old's portfolio ready for the next bull run.

The app, described as a secure white-label platform, is being built exclusively for the Treasury and will remain under full government control. Robinhood said in a post on X: "We're bringing our technology and resources to this groundbreaking initiative to democratize finance for the next generation." That's right, the same app that once crashed during the GameStop saga will now be teaching your kid about compound interest. Diamond hands start somewhere.

The Treasury emphasized it will maintain strict oversight of the program, including enforcing performance standards, safeguarding public funds, and ensuring compliance with federal regulations. The goal is to streamline financial access for eligible families with a strong emphasis on usability and security. Think of it as the ultimate safeword-protected DeFi protocol, but with more paperwork and fewer rug pulls.

The announcement is part of broader financial inclusion and literacy initiatives aimed at expanding access to structured savings or investment accounts for younger Americans. Eligibility details and funding mechanisms are still being finalized. Nothing says "trust the process" quite like a government program still in beta.

Despite the partnership news, Robinhood's HOOD stock saw only a modest bump, trading at $70.13 at time of writing. The market responded with a collective shrug, presumably because investors are still trying to figure out if this is based or if there are strings attached. Either way, someone's getting a #GME-style loredrop about 401ks.
