Bitcoin Tumbles as Trump Threatens 'Civilization Death' Deadline (Again)

By our Markets Desk2 min read

Bitcoin has retreated to the $68,000 zone after briefly flirting with $70,000 on Monday, because nothing says "buy the dip" like geopolitical brinkmanship in the Strait of Hormuz. Markets are currently refreshing Truth Social every 30 seconds, hoping for either peace or at least a clear signal on whether to panic-sell before bedtime.

The Commander in Tweet delivered his morning special this time: "A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again." He followed up with the kind of optimism we expect from a Tuesday: "I don't want that to happen, but it probably will." Peak degen energy from the leader of the free world, folks.

Risk assets are getting absolutely rinsed across the board. U.S. stock index futures are gearing up for a red open, with the Nasdaq 100 taking the crown as the biggest loser at a cool 0.65% dip. Meanwhile, WTI crude is having its own moment, up 1.7% to $114.22 per barrel because apparently, oil loves chaos more than your portfolio does.

But wait—there's a plot twist. Vice President J.D. Vance, while confirming the 8 p.m. ET deadline still very much exists, casually dropped that the military objectives of the Iran war have been completed. So we're potentially looking at a "mission accomplished" situation with about six hours to spare. Nothing like deadline theater with a side of plausible deniability.

The clock is ticking.
