Whales Stack Calls: Bitcoin Options Market Signals $80K Target as Bullish Sentiment Returns

Bitcoin ( $BTC ) surged above $72,000 following a two-week ceasefire between the US and Israel and Iran, though Israel's continued attacks on Lebanon kept things tense. With BTC still holding above $70,000, the options market has tilted decidedly bullish. Nobody panic-sold this time—at least not yet.

Cryptocurrency analyst Omkar Godbole pointed to a noticeable uptick in call options for Bitcoin at $80,000. Citing Deribit data, the analyst noted that the options market is leaning bullish, with investors clearly targeting $80,000 for $BTC. The $80,000 strike currently holds the largest open position in the space. The degens are back in the group chat, and they're yoloing on green candles.

Open interest in call options at the $80,000 strike has climbed past $1.6 billion, dwarfing the $1.41 billion in put options at $60,000 that were the focal point during the recent market downturn. For those keeping score at home: $1.6B vs $1.41B isn't even close. It's giving "bullish remigration" energy.

Beyond options, on-chain data is also showing bullish signs. The analyst highlighted net buying activity from large investors holding more than 10,000 $BTC, pointing to positive momentum among the whale cohort. The whales aren't just dipping their toes—they're doing backstrokes in the pool.

That said, risks remain on the table. The analyst cautioned that a reversal of the US-Iran ceasefire could shake things up, along with potential volatility from key economic indicators like US fourth-quarter GDP data. Because nothing says "stable markets" like geopolitical drama and macroeconomic data dropping at 8:30 AM EST.

Some market analysts predict Bitcoin could reach $100,000 by the end of the second quarter if certain triggers materialize, including a reduction in geopolitical tensions and increased regulatory clarity. $100K by Q2—call it cope, call it hopium, call it whatever helps you sleep at night.
