Memo to the Max: CZ Drops Memoir, Star Xu Declares 'Habitual Liar' Status Yet Again
CZ's new memoir is heating up crypto's oldest grudge match.
In "Freedom of Money," released April 8, Changpeng Zhao revisits his OKCoin days, claiming rivals weaponized FUD against him and that Huobi's Leon Li told him in 2025 that Star Xu had reported him to Chinese authorities years earlier.
Star Xu, never one to let sleeping dogs lie, fired back on X with a "habitual liar" designation and a revival of some very old receipts.
The Beef Goes Deeper Than NFTs
Xu zeroed in on CZ's account of a contract dispute involving Roger Ver, plus allegations about market manipulation and "informant activity" involving Justin Sun.
But Xu's real ammunition came from 2015.
A notarized video from OKCoin shows an accountant's QQ account being accessed in front of a notary, allegedly displaying CZ sending two versions of a Bitcoin.com agreement in December 2014. The controversial termination clause allegedly appears only in version eight.
CZ's defense at the time? He rarely used QQ and someone else might have fabricated the chat logs.
Xu's response then: "Do you believe that?"
He's apparently still asking.
Wallet Keys and Withdrawal Dramas
The memoir also revisits October 2020, when OKX paused customer withdrawals for five weeks while Xu was reportedly under "soft arrest" in China. CZ claims Xu "alone held the keys" to exchange wallets—a setup he contrasts unfavorably with Huobi's handling when Li was detained a month later.
Xu called the reporting allegation "purely false information" and suggested Li "shouldn't believe this kind of nonsense that defies common sense."
Xu's Counter-Arguments
According to Xu, the memoir gets it wrong on:
- CZ's tenure and technical contributions at OKCoin
- The contract dispute with Roger Ver
- Market manipulation allegations
- Informant activity involving Justin Sun
- His current marital status
Xu has leaned on previously released OKCoin materials rather than fresh evidence. CZ had not publicly responded to Xu's posts by publication time. Cointele
