Bitcoin's Iran Ceasefire Pump Fizzles Before Bulls Can Even Order Champagne

By our Markets Desk2 min read

Bitcoin briefly touched new three-week highs around $72,865 on Bitstamp during Wednesday's Wall Street open, riding the wave of a US-Iran ceasefire announcement that sent risk assets soaring. Bulls were already mentally typing "wen $100k" into Twitter before their champagne could even finish chilling.

The relief rally was short-lived. BTC quickly round-tripped its gains, failing to hold the $72,000 level that traders have been eyeing for weeks. Nothing says "bullish reversal" quite like watching your gains evaporate faster than a weekend gambling session at a Las Vegas casino.

The S&P 500 surged over 2.5% at the open, with The Kobeissi Letter noting the index was on track to open above 6,800 and had added a staggering $1.6 trillion in a single day. WTI crude oil dropped to around $91 per barrel as oil-supply crisis fears eased. Meanwhile, crypto was out here fighting for its life trying to hold $72K like it was the last slice of pizza at a dorm room party.

Crypto trader Michaël Van de Poppe pointed out that Bitcoin broke through the crucial $71K level and was building a bullish structure, but emphasized holding support at $69,500 as "crucial" for maintaining the higher lows, higher highs narrative. Translation: don't celebrate yet, fam. We're in the danger zone where paper hands start shaking.

Trader Daan Crypto Trades remained skeptical, calling for a clean break and hold above $72,000 for more than 1-2 days before getting bullish. Because nothing says conviction like needing a full 48-hour confirmation before admitting you might have been right.

The remainder of the week brings US inflation releases that could spark further volatility in risk assets. Buckle up, buttercups. The CPI print is coming, and it's about to separate the degens from the legends.
