BTC Buyers Emerge From Hibernation After Iran Ceasefire Sparks Binance Buying Spree

By our Markets Desk2 min read

BTC buyers made their triumphant return to Binance following news of the Iran ceasefire, with taker buy orders spiking immediately after the announcement. While lasting peace remains elusive, the price action showed bulls were eager to jump in on any positive developments.

BTC reclaimed territory above $72,000 before retreating to $71,538.59. The world's largest cryptocurrency remains range-bound, with sellers stepping in whenever the $70,000 support is tested. Still, the taker volume tells a different story.

On Binance, cumulative net taker volume climbed to $1.02 billion—one of the highest readings in March after weeks of anemic trading activity. The taker buy/sell ratio did remain slightly negative, meaning some traders rushed to lock in profits after the recovery. Classic crypto.

BTC showed its risk-on colors during the latest downturn. The oil shock had left markets stagnant, but the potential de-escalation in the Straits of Hormuz shifted sentiment toward risk-on trading. This wasn't a crypto-specific rally—any asset tied to stability and growth got a boost.

Derivative markets saw significant inflows. BTC open interest increased 5%, with $7.8 billion in positions concentrated on Binance. Total open interest hit $22.3 billion. After the ceasefire announcement, $2.7 billion flowed into derivatives, with $1.2 billion of that arriving in anticipation of the deal.

Traders repositioned short-term, pushing the fear and greed index from 11 to 17. Still deeply fearful, but moving in the right direction.

Most long positions cluster around $70,000 or just below, while short positions are stacking up at $74,600. The path higher remains contested, and traders are keeping their downside protection firmly in place. The setup remains sensitive to negative geopolitical surprises.

Bottom line: bulls showed up, but they're not exactly throwing a party yet.
