Free Publicity: $MOODENG Pumps 6% After Fan Fined $300 for Hogging All of Moo Deng's Attention
In a twist that only crypto Twitter could appreciate, Moo Deng ($MOODENG) is up 6.5% in the last 24 hours following news that some guy really, really wanted to meet Thailand's most famous pygmy hippo in person. The Solana-based meme coin—launched via Pump.fun after the internet collectively lost its mind over a baby hippo splashing around in 2024—got a nice little bump after a man was fined $300 by a Thai court for allegedly hopping a fence at Khao Kheow Open Zoo. Apparently, nothing moves markets quite like men who can't resist climbing fences for viral content. Or was that just my ex?
The zoo's director told AFP the facility will "not allow it to happen again—not to Moo Deng and not to other animals." Moo Deng, for its part, was reportedly "slightly startled" but otherwise unharmed. We assume the iPad survived too, but that's unconfirmed. Because of course it was an iPad. This man approached royalty armed with Apple hardware and somehow thought he'd win her heart. That's either confidence or a complete lack of understanding of how hippos communicate. (Spoiler: it's aggression.)
The token's latest surge follows a familiar pattern for meme coins, which often catch a bid whenever mainstream outlets like AFP shine a spotlight. Back in July, $MOODENG jumped 33% after the zoo announced plans for the hippo's first birthday party. Classic. Mainstream media goes full "and now for something completely wholesome" and degen Twitter starts calculating how many Solana they can buy with their stimulus check. The cycle is beautiful in its stupidity.
For those keeping score at home: $MOODENG hit an all-time high of around $0.68 in November 2024, briefly touching a $680 million market cap. It eventually landed on Coinbase, which sent the price up 80
