Peace Talks, Price Walks: Bitcoin Reclaims $72K as Institutional Money Decides Crypto Isn't Dead Yet

By our Markets Desk2 min read

The ceasefire eased U.S.–Iran tensions, and capital started trickling back into crypto like a hungover guest finally remembering where they left their wallet. Risk appetite made a comeback, and the market's most liquid assets were first in line for the reunion.

Bitcoin bounced back toward $72,800 with over $33 billion in daily volume. Ethereum crawled back into the $2,200–$2,250 zone with volume above $14 billion. When capital returns, it goes where the depth is—core assets get the love first.

This concentration naturally lifted the U.S. Strategic Crypto Reserve, since BTC and ETH drive its valuation. The reserve held about 328,372 Bitcoin, and the price rebound helped valuations recover nicely.

But it wasn't a full-blown party—more of a cautious re-entry. Strong flows into majors suggested recovery was forming, but broader market expansion still needs sustained conviction. The nature of this volume is now the next signal to watch.

Spot Bitcoin ETFs did their part, recording $240.4 million in a single day. Weekly totals hit $816.9 million, with cumulative flows above $56.7 billion. Institutional participation: still in the building.

Derivatives aligned with spot demand. Open Interest rose steadily while taker buy pressure stayed dominant. This wasn't a pump and dump—it showed sustained demand, a rebuilding phase rather than a quick bounce.

The Coinbase Premium Index told a clearer story. After weeks of negative readings below -0.15, it flipped toward +0.04—signaling renewed U.S.-based buying. Ethereum's Premium Index turned positive too as macro pressure eased. Both premiums stabilizing above zero meant buyers were stepping in consistently, not just catching falling knives.

This behavior points to institutional accumulation—gradual, methodical, not frantic. But it's conditional. If the premium holds positive, prices could grind higher. If it fades, the move risks becoming short-term positioning.

The market passed the stress test. Now we see if the conviction holds.
