Visa Validates the Future: Payments Behemoth Joins Stripe's Tempo as 'Anchor' Validator

Payments giant Visa has officially become an "anchor validator" for Stripe-backed Tempo blockchain network, joining Stripe itself and Zodia Custody by Standard Chartered in supporting the layer-1 blockchain built for agentic commerce and real-time payments. Because apparently, if you want to validate the future of money, you need the past masters of the present of money sitting in the node room nodding approvingly.

The companies collectively process trillions of dollars in payment volume every year across nearly every country in the world, marking a significant institutional adoption milestone for blockchain payments infrastructure. "Institutional adoption" has been crypto's Schrödinger's cat for years—simultaneously imminent and perpetually 18 months away—but when Visa and Stripe show up to the validator party wearing matching "we were doing fintech before it was cool" energy drinks, even the most hardened degens have to admit something shifted.

Additional validators are set to be announced in the future. Stay tuned, subscribe, smash that bell icon, etc.

The firms have been design partners of Tempo—which was created in partnership between Stripe and crypto VC firm Paradigm—since day one and are building payment flows on the protocol. Paradigm joining forces with Stripe on a blockchain project is like watching two speedrunners compare notes on the optimal route to destroy Ganon. You know the meta is about to get interesting.

Visa said its validator node was configured and managed in-house following six months of joint work with Tempo's engineering team. Six months! That's basically a crypto marriage by traditional standards, or at least a very serious situationship with matching Slack emojis. The fact that Visa built this thing themselves rather than outsourcing to some validator-as-a-service startup tells you they're playing the long game—or at least the medium-long game where "long game" means "we're definitely thinking about 2027."
