Winklevoss Twins Buy $42M in Bitcoin—Because Apparently Dumping $130M Wasn't Enough Drama
The Winklevoss twins are back at it again. Cameron and Tyler just scooped up 572 BTC worth $42.77 million from Gemini, executing two separate transactions: 372 BTC ($27.86M) and 200 BTC ($14.91M).
This marks their first move in over a month. Back in March, the brothers offloaded nearly $130 million in BTC during Bitcoin's brutal 40% crash from its $120,000 all-time high down to $73,000.
Netizens had been calling for them to buy back the stash. Now they're sitting on 9,328 BTC—still well below their pre-selloff levels, but up from the 8.8K BTC they held at their lowest point since 2012.
Despite the twins' buying spree, BTC didn't get the memo. The price dropped 0.89% to $73,900.73 on Wednesday, stuck between $70,000 and $75,000 resistance. Tuesday's upside from softer US PPI inflation and potential US-Iran peace talks fizzled out fast.
Their timing isn't exactly minty. The purchase puts them at a 0.98% loss, with their total BTC holdings now worth around $854.05 million.
Looks like somebody's dollar-cost averaging their way back into the game.
