Amber Lands in the Oasis: Hong Kong's Whale-Whisperer Snags Dubai's 45th VASP License

Amber Group, the Hong Kong-based digital asset crew that's been playing money handler for institutions and high-net-worth types, just snagged a broker-dealer license in the UAE. Dubai's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) gave them the official nod under their institutional platform, Amber Premium. Because apparently, every serious crypto operation needs a Dubai stamp of approval these days.

Amber Premium FZE is now officially a licensed Virtual Asset Service Provider, though they're keeping things suspiciously quiet for now. The website exists purely to satisfy VARA's regulatory imprint requirements—like that compliance checkbox your compliance officer nags you about—and full public access won't happen until client migration is complete and VARA gives the final thumbs up. Patience is a virtue, especially in regulated crypto.

The license covers broker-dealer services, lending and borrowing, plus management and investment services—but only for qualified and institutional investors. So retail degens, you can keep scrolling. This particular party requires the right credentials and a somewhat thicker wallet. No paper hands allowed.

For context, Amber got preliminary approval back in December 2025 when they were serving about 4,900 HNWI, UHNWI, and institutional clients. They've processed over $1 trillion in cumulative trading volume under the Amber Premium brand. That's trillion with a T. For reference, most crypto traders would be thrilled with $1 million, let alone a trillion dollars shuffling through their books.

With this license, Amber becomes VARA's 45th VASP. Dubai's crypto regulatory scene just keeps getting more crowded—kind of like how every crypto conference now has a Dubai track. At this rate, VARA might need to start issuing VIP numbers like a busy deli counter.
