Papa Musk Endorses Crypto, Maintains Suspicious Lack of Holdings—Still Rocking That Bank Card
Errol Musk, the patriarch of crypto's most prominent cheerleader, has weighed in—and surprise, surprise, he's bullish on Bitcoin. In an exclusive chat with BeInCrypto, the 79-year-old South African engineer declared the old financial system cooked. "I have no doubt that crypto will be the future of finance. The old model has run its course, it's finished," he said. "The new form of money management is clearly crypto." One assumes the old model didn't have the audacity to ask him for a bank statement before letting him move his own money.
So what fuels this conviction? Personal experience, apparently. Errol railed against cross-border bank transfers, calling them "practically impossible." Meanwhile, his crypto crew gets it done instantly. "If I'm in South Africa and I want to bring some money from America through a bank, it's impossible. They make it so impossible through the bank. If I go to my friends in crypto, they do it immediately, no problem," he explained. Nothing like watching a septuagenarian explain why TradFi moves like a snail on sedatives while his group chats are the real fintech disruptors.
The guy's not just talking, either. Errol's rubbed shoulders with the big dogs—met CZ of Binance and Bybit's founder, and received crypto straight-up, bypassing the legacy banking gatekeepers entirely. Meanwhile, regular degens still waiting three days for a Coinbase verification email while CZ apparently answers DMs from everyone's dad.
But here's the plot twist: Errol doesn't actually own any digital assets himself. When pressed, he shrugged and said, "I am still old-fashioned. I have a bank card." Charming, but bold stance from someone dunking on banks. It's like giving a TED talk on why cars are superior to horses while continuing to ride a thoroughbred. The man is essentially living proof that you can understand the future while refusing to buy a hardware wallet.
He did, however, offer a peek at the family crypto portfolio. "Elon and Kimbal, my two sons, have 23,400 Bitcoin," Errol revealed. For context, Tesla bags 11,509 BTC (12th largest public holder), and SpaceX sits on another 8,285 BTC. The Musk family collectively holds more Bitcoin than some mid-sized nations. And yet somehow Errol still thinks his bank card is the move. Incredible.
The Musks have also dabbled in altcoins. Errol mentioned receiving a payment in Solana "a little more than a million rubles" worth. "It was strange for me to receive that payment in crypto. We received Solana back then, it was worth much more, and we got out at the peak," he recalled. Ladies and gentlemen, the man timed the Solana top. Either Errol Musk
