Virtuals Protocol Migrates Cross-Chain Ops From LayerZero to Chainlink CCIP

Virtuals Protocol, an AI agent infrastructure platform for onchain economies, announced the migration of its cross-chain operations from LayerZero to Chainlink CCIP. The move will support transfers of more than $700 million worth of the VIRTUAL token and become the protocol's exclusive cross-chain infrastructure — a number large enough to make any bridge operator double-check its rate limits.

The decision follows a broader security review conducted by Virtuals after the recent LayerZero-related exploit. According to the company, the review focused on strengthening the infrastructure required for autonomous AI agents that can transact, coordinate, earn revenue and move value across multiple blockchains. The timing, of course, was not a coincidence.

Virtuals Protocol develops tools for creating and monetizing AI agents. These agents can be launched, tokenized, funded and managed as independent participants in the onchain economy — essentially autonomous coworkers who never ask for equity.

Chainlink, a blockchain oracle and interoperability network provider, was selected after Virtuals evaluated available cross-chain solutions. The company highlighted several features of CCIP, including a network of independent node operators, built-in rate limits designed to reduce risk during abnormal events, and compliance certifications such as SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001.

With the migration, all cross-chain operations within the Virtuals ecosystem will run through CCIP. The company believes this approach will provide a higher level of security for users and help support the long-term growth of AI-driven applications across the onchain economy. Image: Magnific
