Ethereum Co-Founder Lubin Moves $170M In ETH After 3-Year Silence

The crypto market picked up some fresh fears on Saturday after a wallet linked to Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin shuffled over $170 million worth of ETH — the kind of on-chain activity that makes CT lose its mind.

According to Arkham Intelligence data, Lubin moved roughly 110,000 ETH, valued at about $170.8 million, on June 6, split across several transactions. On-chain data shows the first transfer sent 40,000 ETH (around $61.92 million) to a new address, followed by another 40,000 ETH (roughly $61.74 million) and then 30,000 ETH (about $47.12 million). The receiving addresses are unmarked, which is rarely reassuring for traders.

As the transactions made the rounds on crypto social media, analysts floated the obvious question. "A wallet related to Ethereum's co-founder Joseph Lubin moved $170,780,000 in $ETH to a new address. This is the first outflow in 3+ years," wrote analyst Ted Pillows on X. "Is he planning to sell?" Because nothing says "neutral treasury management" like a nine-figure transfer into unlabeled wallets during a market downturn.

For context, Arkham labels the wallet as possibly associated with Lubin and ties it to a "Genesis Block Address," though the transfer did not drain it. The address still holds around 133,299 ETH, worth roughly $211.15 million at current prices.

The move lands at an awkward moment for Ethereum. At press time, ETH was trading at $1,586.08, down 4.93% over the past 24 hours, while the broader market continued its slow-motion slide. Whether this is a sale, a rebalance, or simply Lubin reorganizing his digital sock drawer, the market heard what it wanted to hear.
