Cake Wallet officially poured Zcash support into its mix on January 15, extending its privacy-first reputation to the ZEC crowd. The integration defaults to shielded addresses, which obscure transaction amounts and parties on the blockchain, while transparent addresses get a rotating treatment—generating a new t-address on each request to bolster privacy. The update also brings background blockchain sync and passphrase wallets for extra security, because nothing says "I love you" like an extra layer of cryptographic armor.
In-app swaps are powered by the NEAR Intents protocol, enabling cross-chain exchanges that are cheap, quick, and private. Seth for Privacy, Cake Wallet’s VP, noted that Zcash transactions "can be private and straightforward" when done right. While Monero remains the wallet’s core, the team recognized a distinct Zcash community with different preferences and aims to offer top-tier privacy for those users, making it easier to move funds across cryptocurrencies—because privacy should be a choose-your-own-adventure, not a one-size-fits-all hoodie.
Cake Wallet originally launched in January 2018 as the first open-source Monero wallet on iOS, founded by Vikrant Sharma to make financial privacy and self-custody accessible. It has since expanded to support Bitcoin (with silent payments) and Litecoin (with MWEB). At press time, ZEC is trading around $418, ranking 17th by market cap, while Monero (XMR) trades near $716, up 50% in the past week, placing it 11th. The update is available for mobile and desktop users, so you can shield your coins whether you’re on the couch or in a coffee shop.
